Aging People in Prison - Human Rights Campaign (APP-HRC) Clinic
The Aging People in Prison - Human Rights Campaign (APP-HRC) is a grassroots, redefined partnership of the lawyer and the prisoner, coming from a human rights paradigm and advocating for the release of America's aging prisoners. Our system of collaboration between jailhouse and pro bono, public interest lawyers builds upon the historical legacy of abolition lawyering to combat the deep systemic issues of mass incarceration, the prison-industrial complex, and the currently growing crisis of the U.S's aging prisoners.
Our objectives are: To provide direct legal services to elderly prisoners who lack adequate legal representation, to engage in direct legal casework with the intent of expediting medical and compassionate releases, to provide parole preparation training for legal advocates, and to provide training and workshops for legal students.
