Through an interdisciplinary lens, a social worker and a lawyer will define capacity and professional standards for best practice, identify client red flags, and provide an ABA-approved tool for working with diminished capacity. Small group case study discussions allow attendees to practice implementing the tool and to learn from peers.
- Participants will be able to define capacity and identify three red flags when working with clients who may need further consideration.
- Participants will be able to identify five best practices or tools for working with clients with diminished capacity.
- Participants will be able to implement the PRACTICAL tool from the ABA when working with clients with diminished capacity.

Amy Keckler, LSW
Social Worker
Colorado Legal Services
Amy Keckler is a Licensed Social Worker with Colorado Legal Services. Amy has been working as a social worker in a variety of roles for the past ten years. She has worked specifically with the aging population for almost five of those years, first as an Adult Protective Services investigator in Virginia and now as a civil aid social worker serving people over the age of 60. Working with the aging population explicitly has exposed unique needs that these clients have, and has led Amy to research capacity and the legal ramifications to better serve her clients. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her dogs, working out with her crossfit community, and reading.
